Children in Childcare are not adequately prepared for  Singapore  primary schools. For example by K2 the target for most childcare providers is to teach your child to read 3 letter words like cat, sat etc and how to count to 50. Based on our experience we say your child needs to be able to do the following by the end of K2 : 

Reading: needs to be reading primary level books – (chapter books) by the end of K2. Just like the one we show you in the above video. Primary School Prep can get your child there if he or she has 3 years left until P1. If your child only has 2 years until P1, he or she will at least be able to read one to two sentence books. This is still better than only knowing 3 letter words, which is what they learn in childcare. Being able to read books with one or two sentences by the end of K2 is enough for your child to avoid falling behind in primary school. 

Maths: needs to know basic maths, count to 100, do basic addition and subtraction, recognise basic fractions, quarter, third, half, understand basic algebra like greater than or less than and equalities and inequalities. Also skip counting in 2s and 5s. Your child can get there with Primary School Prep with a minimum of 2 years left until P1. Remember childcare only teaches them how to count to 50 and possibly some basic addition and subtraction.  

Writing: needs to be able to write sentences, understand basic grammar and punctuation. Primary School Prep will get them there if your child has at least 3 years until P1. If your child only has 2 years until P1 then they will at least learn how to write sentences.
